01-10-2025 My niece asked to take me out for my bday. I chose this restaurant; one of my favorite places to dine. Ordered: 4/5 -Cold Dish Three Mix $12.07- so tasty! Must try. -Szechuan Spicy Fish $17.99- piping hot. So far, all the dishes I've ordered from this place were yummy delicious. That's why I keep coming back. -Rice $2- tasted as though it was reheated and not freshly cooked. Reason for 4 out of 5 rating.

Attentive and friendly service, the dishes we ordered are very tasty, not overly salty or greasy, and big portions! Inside restaurant is clean. There are parking spaces outside. We will come back to try more dishes!

Spicy City is one of those restaurants where you know you're getting an authentic Sichuan experience the moment you walk in. The family style round tables, simplistic menus, and wait times on a Saturday evening say it all: get ready for some real spice. Props to the servers for understanding my semi-broken Mandarin and preparing a table of 9 with only a 30-minute heads up. I usually recommend the spicy boiled fish and mapo tofu at any restaurant serving Sichuan cuisine. However, Spicy City's dan dan noodles especially stood out to me! They nailed the mushy consistency and had a ton of flavor. For the spice-intolerable fellows, the twice cooked pork offers a savory taste with only a mild hint of numbing spice (although to be honest, if they can't stand spice, this is the wrong restaurant). If you want to play things safe, the fried chicken cubes are a crowd pleaser. I imagine I'll want to try new restaurants the next I'm in San Diego, but I might have to give this one a revisit.

Another visit at spicy city with friends. This restaurant never disappoint us. Food taste is always consistent and flavorful. Their special beans are so good and I really like their homestead tofu and eggplant with spicy garlic sauce. Onion pancakes are good too, super soft and delicious, their service is pretty good too. If you are looking for authentic Chinese food, this is the place to go, located at convoy street heaven for food lovers...

Spicy City on Convoy has to have one of the best names for a restaurant. It's blunt and straight to the point. I'll start off by saying that I can't really handle spicy foods. It's no bueno for me. I start sweating and before you know it I have the appearance of someone who just ran a marathon in high humidity. How I ended up at Spicy City was with the help of friends who convinced me that not all their dishes are spicy. So with that said, I rolled the dice and met up with my friends for lunch. This is my first time trying Sichuan cuisine as most of the dishes are well you know spicy. It is said that Sichuan food was developed to help people cope with the humid climate of southwest China. According to Chinese medicine, excessive dampness can negatively affect the body, but eating warming foods like chilies can help eliminate that moisture. The more you know! I left the ordering to my trusted foodie friends who assured me that they would order dishes that were not too spicy. And sure enough 5 of the 6 dishes were not spicy. Let me say that the food came out of the kitchen so fast. Each dish was amazing, packed full of flavor. You definitely need an order of rice to tame the mind blowing flavors. I loved every dish for its Sichaun flavoring. The table had ordered some specials from pork elbow, to pork belly which they only serve on the weekend. Completely satisfied with every dish and would certainly re order it again. Located in the old China Max center, parking is somewhat available but there is also street parking. The restaurant is small and can get packed but with the speed of the kitchen, wait times are not long at all.

The restaurant is a bit small, but it is where I like spicy food - when I am able to eat it. Due to recent food restrictions, can't do spicy food, but definitely reminscing about the spicy food here! They have prepped side dishes nearby the register, which you can get a bit cheaper if you pay in cash. They have jerky that they prep, which sells out quite fast, so you would need to go in the morning to try to get it. Other popular items include their spicy cured meat and Pork Ears. My favorites to get here are the Szechuan Style Spicy Fish, Spicy Fried Lamb with Cumin, and Deep Fried Chicken Cubes with Hot Pepper. Their dishes have a nice kick, and sometimes you just want that spicy fried indulgence with a bit of heartburn/mouth-searing bliss. I will honestly admit I need to eat my favorites with rice to survive. This place is not for those seeking gluten free/less oily options. Service is okay. Parking is a tad harder as the parking lot is small, unless you come during their off rush hours or look for street parking on the side. Understandably LA/Monterey Park/San Gabriel/New York/San Francisco have a plethora of more options in Asian food and probably more cheaper. However I would say that Spicy City is alright in San Diego, as we don't have the same plethora of options like other places.
